[ See, Eiji spent a lot of time getting this right. He knows that Ankh is . . . Ankh. Difficult to manage without some form of blackmail, as well as being almost always on guard. But this is supposed to be their time together, and he doesn't really understand why Ankh's so against it. Especially when he's already prepared like ten small packages of ice candy for Ankh to consume one by one as they watch the movie he'd selected too ]
Would it kill you to relax a bit?
[ He says this with a sort of disgruntled tone. He does not realize that he's providing Ankh with many escape routes. But at the same time, he knows he'll probably be able to catch him and bring him back home no matter what. Which is why he doesn't get up from off the couch and instead just relaxes against it ]
Then again, do you ever relax completely? Because you should at least try. This IS a date, after all.
[ He knows Ankh and the answer is probably of course: No. But he at least wanted to provide a time and space where Ankh could let go and just chill ]

The look on Eiji's face rankles, the audacity of the human to get his way and still be so discontent with the outcome. Ankh is here after all. Perched on the back of the couch next to the window, granted. Looking out, listening for the first sign of disturbance, of trouble. Because there's always trouble. It's part of life, a basic tenet of existing. ]
You keep calling it that, [ he snaps, pivoting in his seat to face Eiji, still seated on the back of his couch with his feet planted where a normal person would be sitting next to Eiji. He leans over the human, looming, glowering with his usual brooding gaze. ]
What makes it a 'date'? That I sit closer? That I've agreed to pay some kind of special attention to you? It's ridiculous. Humans are absurd. How is this enjoyable? What does it accomplish?!
[ He's searched his host's mind, but unfortunately there is little to be found on the subject but a confusing and frankly off-putting mire of stammering voices, meeting in unlikely places, and exchanging inexplicable gifts. Perhaps he can shut Eiji up for a while by providing him with some of that much-coveted underwear. ]

Well, if you sat closer to me, it'd be nice. It means we can cuddle!
[ Ah, yes, the main thing he's wanted to do all day: cuddle. He himself doesn't have THAT much knowledge about dating but he does remember high school and also the galas his father made him go to. So he probably knows more about it than Ankh. So he pulls out an ice candy as a sort of bait and holds it out to Ankh ]
Plus, if you're closer to me then you can eat all the ice candy I prepared for today.
[ He knows that bribery is at least something Ankh understands. And he knows that ice candy is the best way to convince Ankh to do anything. ]

[ ...Ankh demands as he slides down to join Eiji on the couch so he can snatch the ice candy out of the human's hand. Huffing, sits back against the couch with more force than necessary, causing the whole thing to creak and shift in protest. He's definitely not pouting as he sticks most of the ice candy in his mouth, crossing and uncrossing his legs to... slouch against Eiji, just slightly. It's more comfortable than leaning the other way, against the arm of the couch, which is too low, and too hard, and doesn't provide warmth. ]
And what are you gaining from this? Whatever, it's your loss if this is how you wish to waste your time and energy.
[ And ice candy. He busies himself with eating, the tension in his shoulders relaxing as he forgets about all the parts of this that aggravate him in favor of the sweet. ]

Companionship? Being closer to you and having you right here for me to reach my hand out to you? If I can have these things it means that it's not a waste at all.
[ Of course, he'd reach his hand out to anyone who needed it. But Ankh is special and he knows that he knows that. After all, there aren't many people he'd want to be this close to. Or maybe it's really just Ankh.
Well, he'd also be fine with hugging Hina-chan too because, after all they've been through together, she's like a sister to him now ]

...except with Eiji it's never empty. The human is an absurdity, an anomaly, like no one else he's ever known or even ever heard of.
This questioning... is putting him off his ice candies, so he lets out a sharp breath and pushes all the thoughts aside, focusing on eating so he can finish them before they melt.
Whatever Eiji's game is, it will become more apparent over time. Ankh needs more research, more data. And if Eiji continues to feed him in the interim, all the better. ]
Fine, just don't cry to me if you regret this later.
[ A pause. He licks up a bit of sweet syrup dripping onto his fingers, staring at the TV in relative disinterest. ]
What are we watching?

[ Though, that thought does spark something inside of Eiji. The last time he'd cried was . . . probably when he'd lost Ankh and only had the two broken pieces of his medal as companionship for years until he'd found a way to bring him back. It still kind of gets him scared when he remembers that moment. His hand had been out, his hand had been reaching for Ankh's and then there was nothing. And even though everyone else had reached their hand out to him to help save him, the one that he had missed most was Ankh's.
He frowns just a little at the thought, but doesn't do more because he doesn't want to alarm Ankh with his sudden feelings of sadness yet relief. He leans against him with a sigh and gestures to the television lazily ]
It's Ghostbusters. It's a really great American movie.
[ He's pretty sure Ankh won't be bored with this movie, though he might not get some of the comedic scenes. That's okay, though, because he's more than fine with explaining them to him. It's a way to acclimate him more to the human world he's in now. ]

'Ghostbusters'... [ he repeats, continuing to vaguely watch the flashing images as he idly sucks on his sweets. Eiji is right about not being bored, the action scenes and flashing lights and goofy special effects holding Ankh's attention just fine. ]
Humans are absurd. This is entertainment?
[ And yet... he continues watching. ]

Humans are a lot of things, Ankh. But the movie itself is pretty great so far, right?
[ Eiji can tell anyway, with the way Ankh stares at the screen and is appropriately distracted by it and by the ice candy. His plan is a complete success and he's proud of himself for knowing Ankh so well that he was able to make this happen. ]
